Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games, spent time screen writing for popular children’s shows. Some included: Clarissa Explains it All, Oswald, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, and Little Bear. One episode of Little Bear featured by Suzanne, was named Little Bear’s Sweet Tooth. The original Little Bear books were written by Else Holmelund Minarik, and illustrated by Maurice Sendak.

Sweet Evil is one hell of a debut novel. The book is only 447 pages, and took me 3 days to finish. I didn’t want to put it down. It follows Anna, a 16 year-old-southern-girl, who isn’t exactly normal. She can see people’s “colors” (auras), and feel others emotions. She also has heightened senses, but doesn’t prefer to use them, so she can feel normal, like the other teens around her. After meeting drummer, Kaidan Rowe, Anna Whitt’s life changes drastically. She soon finds herself on a journey to find out who and what she is. Its a story of hope, love, and sin. Not to mention searching for purpose. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves stories that dig deep with meaning, adventure, and love. Wendy Higgins created a great novel. I can’t wait for the next book in this sinful trilogy, hopefully it comes out soon! ;D

Spoiler Alert. Sweet Evil is based on a world who is influenced by either the Dukes, Neph, or Leggonnaires to sin. Each Duke has a specific sin (Lust, Lying, Cheating, Wrath, etc.), and they’re children (the Neph) are valued as property, rather than family. They’re forced to “work” to encourage the sins passed down by their fathers, who train them. If they don’t perform, they’re killed. However, its not only based on demond’s influences, but angels as well. Each person has a guardian angel to help try and protect them, but it doesn’t always help. The novel can be dark, but it can also be bright. It really highlights the differences of good and bad. It also shows the war someone can have with their own self.
